Aquarium backers hope to make waves in Rockford

ROCKFORD — About four years ago, Gayle Marzorati looked at the abandoned Armory building along the Rock River and imagined it filled with deep-sea life.

She envisioned everything from fresh-water fish to salt-water sharks, complete with a grand glass tunnel that would surround visitors with sea life.

“People that never scuba-dive and never will scuba-dive can walk under and have that sense of having fish swim all around you,” said Marzorati, whose resume includes serving on the board of the neighboring Discovery Center Museum, among several other community groups.

Marzorati soon found her vision was shared by others. Chris Brodnicki, a former director
