Aquarium recognized for green practices

The National Aquarium in Baltimore was recently given the Green/Sustainable Tourism Award by the Maryland Office of Tourism Development. The award recognizes practices that include waste reduction, recycling, energy and water conservation and cost savings. The aquarium uses rainwater for irrigation, a green roof to decrease stormwater runoff and an innovative filtration system that reduces exhibit water changes, saving 600,000 gallons of seawater annually.
