Aquarium returns great white to Pacific Ocean

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (AP) – The Monterey Bay Aquarium has released a young great white shark back into the Pacific Ocean near Santa Barbara.

Aquarium spokesman Manny Ezcurra says the male shark swam off looking strong and relaxed, circling the boat a few times before swimming out of sight.

The shark was on display at the aquarium for 55 days after being found outside Marina del Rey and taken into temporary captivity.

The shark was tagged and will be tracked as a part of the aquarium’s Project White Shark, a $2 million conservation effort that has tracked more than 40 great whites since
