Aquarium tests downtown waters

CLEARWATER – ‘Winter’ the dolphin has delayed the scheduled demolition of downtown Clearwater’s Harborview civic center and given the downtown its first non-Scientology-related tourist destination.

The Clearwater Marine Aquarium (CMA) is turning Harborview’s main floor into a museum featuring sets and props from “Dolphin Tale,” the soon-to-be-released motion picture.

“It’s kind of a defensive move,” CMA’s David Yates explained. “It allows us to digest a lot of crowds that maybe we can’t handle right here during peak hours.”

Visitors who park at the downtown facility will be shuttled to the main attraction, which is Winter’s home on Island Estates.

Yates predicts CMA will easily
