Belle Isle Aquarium opens doors to public today

Detroit — Visitors to Belle Isle Saturday will be able to check out the country’s oldest operating aquarium once again.

The Belle Isle Aquarium, which has been closed on the island since 2005, will be open one Sunday a month and the first and third Saturdays of the month. The aquarium is open today from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with free admission and parking.

At a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday morning, the mayor and conservancy members touted the hard work done to bring the facility back to life.
