Beluga whale born at Shedd Aquarium

A beluga whale gave birth to a baby early this morning at the Shedd Aquarium, officials announced today.

Mauyak, who has given birth to two other calves at the aquarium, gave birth at 2 a.m. to a whale estimated at 150 pounds and 4-1/2 feet, according to a release from the aquarium. The calf arrived after a labor that went quickly and “very smoothly,” according to the aquarium’s head of animal care, Ken Ramirez.
