Cabrillo Aquarium eyeing $100,000 in upgrades

If all goes as planned, the Cabrillo High School Aquarium could be getting a major facelift in the coming months — and possibly a national audience to watch it all go down.

A projected $100,000 enhancement to the on-campus facility received a major boost this week when, following a presentation by a group of students at Tuesday’s Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors meeting, county staff recommended that Cabrillo receive a $75,000 grant from the Coastal Resource Enhancement Fund (CREF). The school must now wait until March 4 to find out how much, if any, funding it will actually receive.
