Monterey Bay Aquarium hikes admission

The Monterey Bay Aquarium has raised its general admission price 10 percent to $32.95, the first increase in three years.

“Our goal is to remain the best aquarium in the world,” said aquarium spokesman Ken Peterson, and “operating revenues are what pays for it.”

The aquarium did market research before the increase, Peterson said, and determined that the $3 increase is something visitors will take in stride. The increase became effective on Sunday. The children’s rate, raised by $2 in mid-2011 will stay at $19. 95, and the senior and student rates went up $2 to $29.95.
