News Summary: NYC aquarium rebounds after Sandy

STORM SURGE: Superstorm Sandy overran The New York Aquarium with oily, debris-filled water, knocked out backup power to the exhibits and caused roughly $65 million in damage.

SURVIVAL FEARS: Managers wondered whether the aquarium could survive in the spot on Coney Island it’s called home since 1957. Five months later, more than 80 percent of the 12,000-animal collection is intact, and visitors should be able to see walruses, angelfish, otters and others when about half the aquarium reopens in late spring.
