World Aquarium admission to increase

The high cost of fish food has forced the World Aquarium to raise its prices from $6 to $7.95 starting March 1.

“We have 850 species here and each one of these requires a special diet,” said founder Leonard Sonnenschein. “The high quality food we buy costs thousands and thousands of dollars.”

The World Aquarium acts as a de facto shelter, accepting some unwanted turtles and other aquatic animals.

“People buy these little turtles not realizing they grow up to be big turtles that will live for 25, 30 years,” said Sonnenschein. “More mouths to feed means more money.”
